Newsletter 26th June
Parents Afternoon
A reminder that tomorrow there will be a parent?s open afternoon at 2pm. This will be an opportunity to look at the children?s work and spend some time with your children engaged in a range of activities. This term?s QCA/SAT results and Teacher Assessments will be given out at the end of term and will form the basis on next terms target setting meeting in September. The Year 6s are going to Dunsford school in the afternoon for a PE and swimming event so will not be part of the events in the afternoon. Year 6s will obviously need their PE kits and possibly a second swimming costume. All Bridford year 6s will be dropped off at the Bridford Bus Shelter at approx. 3.30pm, Christow year 6s will be dropped at school. Thanks to Ruth and Miss Ruff for organising this.
Mrs Susan Simm
I am pleased to report that Mrs Simm has been appointed to the post of LSA (Learning Support Assistant) and MTA (Meal Time Assistant). She is highly experienced in this area of work. She is currently working at Moretonhampstead School and will take up her fulltime post in September. She will be working afternoons at Christow School until her contract finishes at Moreton.
Devon Schools Mix Wednesday 28th June
The school choir with Mrs Carpenter will be representing us at this year?s musical highlight at WestPoint. Ruth has worked tirelessly to arrange transport. We are performing at 10am so people who have volunteered to help transport children will need to meet at 8.15am at school, to leave at 8.30am. We will be leaving WestPoint at 2pm to be back in Christow by the end of the school day. Parents who wish to see their children perform are welcome to attend. Due to Mrs Carpenter being out of school last week there will be an extra choir club on Tuesday 27th June straight after school until 4pm ? we hope that all choir will be able to attend.
Bridfordstock Thursday 29th June
Weather permitting we will be at Bridford Woodland Trust for 12 noon. Transport is proving a little tricky this year so we are hoping to drive the KS1 children (Reception, years 1 & 2) and the older children will walk. We will have our picnic lunch altogether in this wonderful setting and musical entertainment will commence at 1pm. It is hoped that children will go home from the BWT with their parents. Children who are going to After School Club will be driven back to school. If the weather is cold and wet we will hold the event in the school hall (as per last year!). Because of the awkwardness of the site the PTFA are going to lay on drinks for the children but grown ups who like a cup of tea or coffee might like to bring along a flask.
Shades Day (Year 2 ? 6) and Bring your Bear to School Day (Rising 5s, Year R and Year 1)
Please see the attached information letter. Thank you for your support with this.
Fund Raising
A big thank you to Caroline Brimblecombe, Sarah Cann and Emma Haycock who came in with £90 this morning, raised at the Teign Valley Horse Show. Another huge thank you to Richard Slack and Stuart Doderer (and friends) who worked so hard to provide the big screen football extravaganza on Sunday afternoon in the school hall. Let?s hope England continue to do well, all money raised is going towards the overhaul of the Library. If England do make it to the final our plans for the library will be able to come to fruition so much quicker! No pressure.
School Council
The cake sale that the School council organised raised £47.75. Well done all concerned. The school Council are hoping purchase resources for playtimes.
Sports Week - Week beginning 3rd July
Sports and PE will be happening every afternoon next week. Please make sure that your child(ren) have the correct kit and appropriate footwear in school for this. They will also all need to have a drinks container, sunhat and sun cream to take down to the field. Sports Day is on Thursday 6th July - all welcome to attend ? 1pm start. Children will be told which team they are in this week. There will be a picnic after the sports events, we hope you will be able to come along and relax in the sun!
Arts from Teign
Year 5 and 6 children will be involved in an Arts project run by Teign School on the afternoon of 5th and 12th July. This is at Christow School.
Photographs
Details about the Whole school, Class and Group photographs will be sent home tomorrow with your child(ren). Please return the order form, together with your payment in the envelope provided, by Wednesday 5th July, at the latest.
Summer Fete 8th July
The PTFA are well on the way with organisations for this summer spectacular. We will be holding a non-uniform day on 7th July in return for cakes for the cake stall.
Finally, I know it has been a very busy term and many of you have been called upon repeatedly to help with transport to hither and thither, but we do really appreciate it. It is good for the children to be able to take advantage of the activities and events that are available. So thank you again. Back to top
