6th June 2006
Welcome back after the half term break. All the children are looking bonny and refreshed after making the most of the lovely weather. Let?s home the sunshine continues.
A big thank you to Mrs Turner and Mrs Brocks for organising the Brunel Bridge Building Challenge on Friday 26th May. I hope you all saw the pictures in the Express and Echo; a copy is up in the foyer if you missed it.
Queen Elizabeth?s 80th birthday
Plans are afoot for an afternoon of fun and festivities. Please look out for lists on the classroom doors requesting food pledges for the party tea. Remember the dress code is Fashion Through the Reign. The PTFA are looking to ?crown? a Queen and King for the best outfit, and there are prizes for the runners up. Also see the accompanying cardboard triangle (there should be enough for each school aged child). This is for the bunting competition. Children are invited to decorate the front and back of the triangle in the Royal manner! There will be prizes for the winner each of the 4 classes (including preschool). Get your entry in to the school office by the morning of the 15th June with name pencilled on please. A royal display is in progress in outside Bowden and Kennick classrooms ? feel free to add any of your own royal momentoes and Thank you to everyone who has brought things in already.
Packed Lunches
As you know there has been a nationwide initiative to improve the quality of school dinners. The children are now offered a balanced and nutritious meal at lunchtime. However, some children are complaining that the children who have packed lunches are still enjoying the forbidden fruits of processed foods and such like. If your child, or children, does have packed lunch please could you ensure that they do not contain sweets and chocolate, foodstuffs high in additives, and processed foods? Thanks.
Cake sale
I know this sounds a bit odd, following the last paragraph but the school council has organised a cake sale on Friday 9th June in aid of new equipment for the playground. All donations gratefully received and please could children bring some money to spend. Many thanks.
Swimming
Remember years 3 to 6 children will be starting their swimming lessons from 6th June. They will need their kit every Tuesday until 11th July.
Sun
The sun does shine on the righteous so I expect it will be glorious weather all this term. Please ensure that children are adequately protected with sun cream and sunhats. The new school sunhats are now at Thomas Moore and are rather lovely. Please put names in your hats! We have a lot already mixed up!
Woodwind Demonstration
Mr Richard Clark is a local music teacher. He will be giving the school a demonstration of some of the instruments and music available on Thursday 22nd May in the school Hall at 2.30pm. Some of our own musicians, and musicians from Doddi school, will be participating and parents are invited to attend. He is available for individual, shared and group lessons. He offers lessons in all the woodwind instruments plus recorders. Come along on the 22nd for more information and Thanks to Jeanette Sanderson for organising this for us.
Greenhouse
As mentioned in the last newsletter offers are invited for the Greenhouse in excess of £350. The closing date for the offers is Friday 16th June. Let Tina know if you would like to enter a bid for it.
Vouchers
Mrs Brocks is busy counting the Active Kids (Sainsburys) and Computers for Schools (Tesco) Vouchers with a view to purchasing some resources for the school. If you have anymore vouchers lurking in handbags and pockets bring them in asap. A big Thank You to Rob and the customers of the Artichoke for their generous donation of vouchers. Thank you for Sarah Prowse for organising the village collection for us. Back to top
