Magic Box Poems

Kennick have been studying the poem 'The Magic Box' by Kit Wright as part of their Literacy.

They absolutely loved this poem and were full of ideas about the things that they would choose to put in their own magic box. Below are some of the Kennick children's own magic box poems.

By Harrie-Rae (Year 2)

I will put in my box,

The song of a bird,

The taste of sweetest strawberries,

The velvet feeling of a baby's skin,

The cuddle of a kitten,

The love of a flower fairy.

I will put in my box,

The beautiful face of Helena,

The kiss of mummy,

The feel of rough paper,

The smell of a rose.

My box is made out of love and favours.

It has jewels on the top and wishes

in the corners.

I will explore in my box,

I will bounce on the moon and fall through

the stars.

By Katie (Year 2)

I will put in my box,

A pure lick of the stickiest lollipop,

A clear sea washing over shells that

are pink and curled like a rose bud.

I will put in my box,

The summer smell of strawberries,

And the cold winter wind freezing my ears

I will put in my box kittens on clouds

and angels in baskets

My box is made from glitter and

Pearls and all things shiny

It has secrets in the corners and

The hinges are made from spider's silk

I will swim in my box through the

Bluest oceans to the deepest caves

There I will ride with dolphins and chase the sharks away.

By Poppy (Year 3)

I will put in my box,

The smell of a salty beach.

The relaxing sound of a flowing stream,

The sight of a multi-coloured rainbow.

I will put in my box,

The sap of a newly grown leaf,

The peace of a deserted night,

The heaviest sound of booming thunder.

I will put in my box,

The heat of the fiercest desert,

The soft song of an angel,

The fur of the furriest animal.

The last and most precious thing in my box is:

A shiny icicle hanging down from a frozen cave.

My box is smothered with new life on the lid

and love at the bottom,

It has wishes in the sharp corners.

The hinges are made out of the flippers

of a smooth dolphin.

I will explore with my box the misty rainforest

and swing on the vines with a family of apes

across the swamp of a snapping crocodile.

By Connor (Year 2)

I will put in my box,

the taste of salt on meat

and the lick of coldest lolly.

I will put in my box,

the sip of the bluest water

and the taste of strawberries.

I will put in my box,

the smell of smoke from a factory,

and  the fire from a dragon.

I will put in my box,

the wing of an eagle

and the swish of a wave on a beach.

I will put in my box,

the bark of a cat and the purr of a dog.

The hinges of my box are an eagle's teeth, and the lid is an angels wing.

It has sparkles in the corners

and its lock is a unicorn horn.
